Porthkerris Camping and Diving Trip 2024

10 – 14 August 2024

Porthkerris is a firm favourite with our club, due to it amazing diving and snorkelling opportunities, picturesque, exclusive and secluded beach front location, as well as convenient on-site facilities. Porthkerris offers something for everyone – divers and snorkellers of all ages and experience can enjoy the beautiful blue waters here in the summertime. Non-divers can also chill at the beach, swim in the water or take a trip out to some of the local sights – including the Cornish Seal Sanctuary and Lizard Peninsula.

Following awesome summer trips in 2022 and 2023, we will be running another camping and diving trip in 2024.

Camping

We have reserved a limited number of electric pitches close the beach, suitable for tents and caravans/motorhomes. The views from here are truly stunning, especially the early morning sunrise. The facilities are also close by making it very convenient.

These pitches will be available on a first come, first-served basis and are exclusively for our club members. Once these are taken, additional electric / non-electric pitches are available elsewhere on the site but are also subject to availability.

Itinerary

We will meet at Porthkerris on Saturday 10th August, pitch up and relax during the afternoon. This is an ideal opportunity for a late afternoon swim or snorkel before a welcome meal, drinks and chatting around a cosy campfire.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will be diving days, with snorkelling between and after dives. Whilst Porthkerris is generally more forgiving to the weather and tides that other locations, our diving and snorkelling will be weather dependent. This is always the case with all our UK trips as conditions are never predictable.

This is an ideal trip for beginners and those looking to build up experience in the UK. Depending on the conditions, dusk/evening diving may also be an option as will boat diving. Boat dives will be booked separately based on what those in the group wish to do and will be payable separately.

There will be plenty of time for relaxing, swimming, walks and other activities… we like to keep things flexible, so the daily plans are not regimented.

In the evening, we tend to organise ourselves, cook a feast together and relaxing around the campfire. Meals depend on everyone’s preferences.

Facilities

Toilets, showers and washing up facilities are located close to the shop (and for those of us staying at the electric beach pitches). The shop sells mainly diving equipment but also has delicious Cornish ice cream and some basic essentials.

There is a good set-up for washing down equipment after dives and also filling cylinders. Teas, coffees, soft drinks and lunches can be purchased from the small onsite case, or you can prepare you own at camp.

There is also a small shop a short drive away but the large supermarkets (Tesco and Sainsbury) are in Helston, which is a 30 – 35 minute drive each way, through narrow lanes. For this reason, we try to organise meals and co-ordinate trips to the supermarket between us, to make it easier for all.
