Welcome to Dahab, Egypt

Located on the Sinai Peninsula approximately 80 km north of Sharm el-Sheikh, Dahab is a former Bedouin fishing spot. Today, it’s considered to be one of Egypt’s most treasured diving destinations. Dahab is home to the world-renowned Blue Hole and some of the most pristine reefs in the Egyptian Red Sea.

We’ve had some truly amazing adventures here in previous years.

Our Long Overdue Return to Dahab

With eager anticipation and great excitement from all our group, we set off from various locations in the UK on the evening of 27th May and early on 28th May. All heading for one very special and much-loved diving spot in the Egyptian Red Sea – Dahab! Due to COVID and travel bans in the area by the UK Government before that, this was our first time back in Dahab since 2015. It was to be the best trip yet!

We were the first to arrive, having endured an overnight flight from London Heathrow via Cairo. All in all, the flight wasn’t bad at all and the stopover was offset against the generous 46KG (2 bag) luggage allowance per person!

Arriving weary-eyed (I don’t sleep on planes), in Sharm El Sheikh mid-morning on Saturday, we met up with Phil, who also had a connecting flight and Renate at Black Rock Dive Centre, before making our way by road to Dahab.

The road trip was an easy and very pleasant drive…. just a couple of security check points en-route.

After settling in at the resort and sorting out our equipment, we met up with the others in the group later that evening. They had arrived on the later Easyjet flight from Gatwick.

The stage was set for a fantastic week of diving ahead!

I was so excited to dive in clear water and it did not disappoint 😁 - the marine life was amazing, it was like being in our own huge beautiful aquarium. The dive sites and guides were fabulous, I felt so safe with them, the hotel, food and itinerary were brilliant and the company of you guys and gals was the best! Thanks to everyone for hints and tips to help me improve my diving, especially my buoyancy. And finally for the laughs, IT WAS AMAZING!!!! Can’t wait to do it all again.

Watch the Highlights!

Really had a great trip and very much enjoyed everyone’s company. I thought the hotel, food and staff were all first class. The dive team were also excellent, very patient and enthusiastic. Everything ran like clockwork and it was an all round great experience. Thanks Ayaan for all the work you put in and for everyone’s company.

Our stay at the Swiss Inn Resort

We stayed at the beautiful 4* Swiss Inn Resort – a great choice!

Swiss Inn Resort occupies a prime location on a wide stretch of Dahab’s lagoon beach, surrounded by lush gardens and relaxing ambience. The staff were exceptionally friendly and it was just a short walk to the dive centre! The resort features two restaurants and a beach bar, with a wide range of water sports available including windsurfing, kayaks, and water skiing. The resort also has beach activities, a spa, fitness centre and is also family-friendly, with a kid’s club designed for the younger ones.

For breakfast and dinner, we were welcomed by a delicious array of sumptuous foods from around the world. Staff were very friendly and the restaurant team got to know us during the week, providing an attentive and personalised experience!

The rooms were also comfortable with fully functional air-conditioning (a little too well functioning according to my wife and son, who didn’t appreciate me having it full-blast!)

Although there wasn’t much time for us to make use of the water sports, the ladies did opt to indulge in some spa therapy on the last day!

Dive sites & sea life were stunning. Hotel accommodation & food excellent. Already thinking about when I can go back.

Diving

During the week, we collectively completed 5 days of diving, 89 dives, 64 hours underwater and reached an average depth of 23.4 metres. We managed to dive at some of the best spots too – including the Blue Hole, El Bells, The Lighthouse, Moray Gardens, The Canyon, Gabr El Bint, Sha’ab Sayed and Shugairut.

Renate and her awesome team at Black Rock Dive Centre were helpful as always, ensuring all abilities and needs were well catered for. A big thanks to both Mamdouh and Hady for looking after our divers and ensuring everyone had amazing dives.

We also had students completing Scuba Diver, Nitrox and Deep certifications during the course of the week – a big congratulations to Nazia, Keyaan and Chris for your achievements.

It was a pleasure to be back in the clear warm water of Dahab and its many fantastic dive sites. El Bells and the Canyon remain by favourites.

The diving trip was absolutely amazing. To think that I've lived 38 years without experiencing the magnificent underwater world makes me realise how much we are missing out on. I would describe is as a humbling experience to have the opportunity to explore a world where we have to respect the creatures that live within it. Ayaan is a patient teacher and I am so glad that I did this and look forward to more diving!

Lifelong goal to swim with turtles ✔️ - the food, company and diving all amazing. Downsides… didn’t get enough of a tan. Didn’t get to eat enough falafels and not long enough. All in all 20 out of 10!

Quad Biking

In Scuba 2000 tradition, we headed off for some quad bike adventures on the last day!

We headed out into the desert tracks, stopping of for a short hike up to a stunning view point and some light refreshments. Only downside is that we weren’t allowed to go faster!!

I enjoyed the hotel, the diving and seeing so many fishes, going on a boat and the quad biking!
